So.. what is this?

Mad honey is real honey. The difference is where the bees forage. In certain mountain regions, mostly Nepal and parts of Turkey, wild bees collect nectar from specific rhododendron flowers during short seasonal windows. Naturally occurring grayanotoxins from that nectar carry into the honey. That's why we measure them in every batch and give one clear limit: up to 5 g a day.

How much can I eat?

Never more than 5 g a day – less than one level teaspoon. For adults only. Do not exceed this amount.

Origin story of the honey

Real Mad Honey comes from remote mountain regions where bees forage during short seasonal windows.

In Nepal, it’s often wild-harvested from cliff hives — not farmed like regular honey.

That’s why it’s rare, seasonal, and impossible to mass-produce.

Want the full story?
Mad honey vs. normal honey

It's still real honey, but in certain regions bees collect nectar from specific rhododendron flowers, and grayanotoxins (GTX) from that nectar enter the honey. Regular honey doesn't contain GTX. We publish batch lab reports so you know exactly what you're getting.

Lab Reports
What does it taste like?

Darker and more intense than everyday honey: earthy, slightly bitter, with a warm finish. Colour and texture vary by batch, because we never blend.

Why Real Mad Honey is
the international standard

If you’re buying this online, you deserve answers—without digging through forums.

So we’ve built Real Mad Honey around a simple checklist:

VERIFIED AUTHENTICITY (FROM CLIFF TO JAR)
We work with trusted partners in Nepal - through mountain communities where this honey is traditionally harvested.
We've filmed the process (watch our documentary). We know the hunters by name. We visit the regions. This isn't anonymous bulk honey bought and relabeled. It's a relationship-based supply chain where origin and handling are taken seriously.

A rejection standard (unsafe or inconsistent batches don’t get sold)
Every batch is tested by an independent laboratory for its grayanotoxin content before we sell it. You can look up the report for your batch on our Lab Reports page.
We publish these lab reports per batch. You can see the exact GTX concentration of the honey you're buying.

    The Source

    WHERE IT COMES FROM

a honey with a story that begins at 3,500 meters above sea level.

    Centuries of tradition

Mad honey has been collected in the Himalayas for centuries. Honey hunters still reach the cliff colonies on ropes, once or twice a year.

    Fun and Enjoyment

The honey comes from wild colonies of the Himalayan giant honey bee, which build their combs on cliff faces above 2,500 metres.

    One short season

Rhododendrons bloom for only a few weeks in spring. That is the only window in which this honey can be collected, which is why supply is limited.

    Never blended

We don't blend batches. Colour, taste and grayanotoxin content differ from batch to batch, so every batch gets its own lab report.
